The Alice E.
The Alice E was built in 1899 and is the oldest Friendship Sloop sailing today. Her builder and exact location are a mystery but we know that she was built somewhere near Friendship, Maine. Alice E. was first used as a working lobster boat. In the 1930s she was purchased by a doctor and renamed “Depression.” In 1984 she was rebuilt with local cedar and oak here in Maine. After purchasing her, we rechristened her “Alice E.” restoring her original name. She sails out of Southwest Harbor and is 42’ overall.
The Helen Brooks.
The Helen Brooks was built by Bruno & Stillman in 1970 and sails out of Northeast Harbor. She was built as a cruising boat with a topmast, making her a very capable sailor, able to fly 5 sails at once. Aesthetically Helen boasts beautiful varnished teak and bronze hardware. Helen Brooks is named after Karl’s grandmother and is 42’ overall.
